
Dr.
Lawrence F. Marshall Joins Board of Pharmos Corporation

NJ, June 3, 2002 Pharmos Corporation (Nasdaq:
PARS and Nasdaq Europe: PHRM) today announced the appointment
of Lawrence F. Marshall, M.D. to fill a vacant seat on
the Company's Board of Directors. Dr. Marshall, an internationally
recognized neurosurgeon and opinion leader in the field,
is currently Professor and Chair of the Division of Neurological
Surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical
Center. Dr. Marshall brings to Pharmos a wealth of leadership
and experience in scientific and clinical research as
well as in drug development, especially in the treatment
of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other conditions and
diseases of the brain and central nervous system.
Dr.
Marshalls extensive experience makes him an invaluable
addition to our board, said Haim Aviv, Ph.D., Chairman
and CEO. "In particular, his comprehensive understanding
of traumatic brain injury including current market
needs and priorities from a clinical perspective
will help us meet important strategic goals.
Dr.
Marshalls 30-year career as a scientist and neurosurgeon
has been at the forefront in the search for new and better
treatment measures to improve patient outcome. He has
been principal investigator or co-investigator in over
two dozen preclinical and clinical trials primarily relating
to head and spinal cord injury, including projects funded
by the National Institutes of Health, the Insurance Institute
for Highway Safety, and several large pharmaceutical companies.
Results of research undertaken by Dr. Marshall, which
cover a wide range of issues related to TBI and other
conditions of the brain, have been published in dozens
of scientific journals. Among the numerous board, committee,
editorial and other positions Dr Marshall has held or
holds are board and committee memberships with the American
Brain Injury Consortium, the National Head Injury Foundation,
the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and
the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Marshall is
the recipient of many distinguished medical prizes and
awards.
Pharmos
is currently undertaking a pivotal Phase III TBI study
of dexanabinol, its first neuroprotective product under
clinical development. Patients are currently being enrolled
in centers in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Israel,
Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. Upon receipt
of regulatory approvals, enrollment of patients will commence
in up to seven additional international countries, including
the US. Enrollment of approximately 860 total patients
is anticipated by the end of 2003.
Pharmos
discovers, develops, and commercializes novel therapeutics
to treat a range of neurological disorders such as traumatic
brain injury, stroke, pain, multiple sclerosis, and other
CNS and peripheral neuro-inflammatory indications.
